Headway Tshwane is the newest branch of Headway and the first outside of the immediate area of Johannesburg. The branch opened its doors on the 21st of July 2012 and is situated in the Wilgers, Pretoria. This branch currently runs group activity days on Mondays and Wednesdays. The Headway Tshwane group therapy activities include physical and cognitive therapy, as well as music, art and crafting activity groups. Partaking in the group activity day gives our members a chance to continue their therapeutic improvement as well as enjoy a fun-filled social day. Family members have found this beneficial to both themselves and their brain injured family member as this offers both some respite and provides them with alternative social interaction. Still in its infancy, services at Headway Tshwane presently include a support group that meets every fortnight and therapy groups that meet twice a week. Although we are the youngest branch in the Headway stall we have already grown into a loving, supportive and somewhat loud family. In the great tradition of both the Headway branches in Alexandra and Soweto, we have also started an income generation project. The name of this project is Kaofela which loosely translates to “all of us together”. The Kaofela project currently takes place on the last Friday of every month but we hope to make it more regular later on in the year.
